An OPG ( Panoramic Imaging) is a technique for producing a single image of the facial structures that includes both the upper and lower jaw and their supporting joints along with the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ).
OPG is often used as the initial screening tool.
OPG is most useful clinically for diagnostic problems requiring broad coverage of the jaws.
OPG may be requested for extensive dental diseases, wisdom teeth assessment, teeth and bone overview, osseous diseases, suspected large lesions, tooth development and eruption, retained teeth or root tips, and TMJ pain.
OPG is also useful for patients who do not tolerate intraoral procedures well.
J Morita’s Veraview X 800 produces OPGs with consistent image quality with uniform focus and the area of interest clearly observable
For children’s smaller jaws, the range of exposure is more narrow to reduce X ray dose.
Partial OPG
If a complete panoramic image (OPG) is not needed, a panoramic of only a specified region can be taken. By excluding parts of the dental arch, X-Ray dose is reduced.
Bite-Wing Exposure
This exposure is useful for prosthetics and diagnosis of mild periodontitis or caries in the proximal spaces of premolars and molars.
